The Market Will Move. Is Your Retirement Plan Ready for It?

Event Series (See All)

October 1 @ 6:00 pm 7:00 pm EST

FREE RETIREMENT DINNER SEMINAR

Market changes are normal.

Market changes are a normal part of investing. But when retirement is getting closer, or withdrawals have already begun, market ups and downs can raise concerns. This seminar is designed to help you better understand how market risk may affect retirement income, withdrawals, taxes, and long-term planning.

September 29 and October 1 | 6:00 PM
Sammy G’s Tavern | High Point
*Complimentary Dinner Included, no obligation

This educational event is designed for adults age 50+ who are retired or approaching retirement and live in the Triad area. Spouses and retirement-age guests are welcome.

A Market Prediction Isn’t A Retirement Plan

Nobody knows exactly what the market will do next.

Retirement planning should not depend on guessing when the next downturn will happen, how long it will last, or what the market will do afterward.

A thoughtful retirement plan considers more than investment performance. It may also need to account for income needs, withdrawals, access to money, taxes, Social Security, insurance, healthcare, longevity, and the amount of investment risk that makes sense for your circumstances.

What You’ll Learn:

During this educational seminar, we’ll discuss:

  • Why market losses can affect retirement differently once withdrawals begin
  • What “sequence of returns risk” means in plain language
  • Why retirement income planning involves more than watching an account balance
  • How growth, income, liquidity, insurance needs, taxes, and legacy planning may serve different purposes
  • Why Social Security and other income sources belong in the larger retirement conversation
  • Questions to consider when reviewing the level of investment risk in a retirement plan
  • How emotional decisions during volatile markets can affect long-term planning
  • What you may want to review before the next period of market uncertainty

RETIREMENT CHANGES THE CONVERSATION

While you’re working and saving, market declines may mean continuing to contribute and waiting for markets to recover.

Retirement can be different.

Once withdrawals begin, the timing of market returns may become more important. A retirement plan may also need to support current income while keeping enough flexibility for future expenses and changing circumstances.

That doesn’t automatically mean getting out of the market. It doesn’t mean moving everything into one type of product either.

It means understanding what each part of your retirement plan is intended to do and how the pieces may work together.

YOUR RETIREMENT PLAN HAS MORE THAN ONE JOB

Growth matters, but it isn’t the only consideration in retirement.

Your plan may also need to address where income will come from, how accessible your money needs to be, how much investment risk you’re comfortable taking, how withdrawals may affect taxes, when Social Security may fit into the picture, and how insurance or legacy goals fit with everything else.
